Recent Birding April,May 2015

I had a few FOY(first of year) species and witnessed a Bald Eagle preying on Glaucous-winged Gull in the past month, as spring arrived. Many species that I have never seen before were recorded, including Red-eyed Vireo, Swamp Sparrow and Green Heron, but I wasn't able able to find any.

Bald Eagle
At around 11:40 a.m., an adult bald eagle suddenly attacked a Glaucous-winged Gull on east beach. I didn't notice the gull before it was attacked so I'm not certain if it was injured.

then the eagle left the gull barely alive on the beach for some reason.

Later in the day when I came back to check the beach again at 3:15 p.m., a juvenile eagle had already almost finished eating the gull.

Did not see the chipping sparrows that were seen in the early morning, but the common warblers were plentiful. It seemed like the broad-leaf trees in the park were hosting a lot of caterpillars; every few seconds, a warbler would just pick up one.
